						The Hidden Language of Dressage

"The bottom up process of training a dressage horse begins with what I call it’s first tier basics . They are: “go”, “stop”, “turn-in”, “move out”, and “soften”. Although hidden deep within the language, these concepts are at the core of everything in dressage. We use them to create all of the figures, movements, and qualities we want in our horses.

When your horse understands the first tier basics and is responsive to your aids for them, you will be able to make progress, until then, you won’t. Either you’ll be stuck at the lowest levels trying to ride round circles forever, or, you’ll end up forcing horses to perform in a way that makes them stiff, sore, and ultimately lame. It is this black and white, this straight forward, this simple." (From Riding in the Moment - the hidden language of dressage")
